Dr. Manjunatha BN is molecular virologist worked mainly on one health, virus discovery, zoonotic viruses, development of molecular diagnostic assay systems (RT-PCR, qRT-PCR, oligo design, ELISA, cell culture, etc.) and molecular characterization of viruses.. He has more than 15 years of experience on infectious viral diseases, molecular diagnsotics and DNA sequencing. He completed his bachelor’s in veterinary science (BVSc & AH) at Veterinary college, Bidar, Karnataka and obtained ‘Department of Biotechnology (DBT) scholarship’ to pursue master’s (MVSc) in Animal Biotechnology at CCS Haryana agricultural university, Hisar, Haryana, India.  Then, he received prestigious ‘Commonwealth scholarship’ to pursue PhD at The Pirbright Institute (in association with Royal Veterinary college, University of London), United Kingdom, where he worked in high containment SAPO4 virology reference laboratory on different viruses. Later he continued his postdoctoral fellowship at The Pirbright Institute. During his graduate and postdoctoral studies in UK, he worked on characterization of novel orbiviruses and development of many RT-PCR and qRT-PCR diagnostic tests which are currently being used at OIE reference laboratory at The Pirbright Institute. Later he worked as postdoctoral scholar and research veterinarian in global PREDICT project at One Health Institute (OHI), School of Veterinary Medicine, University of California Davis. Here, played an important role in the discovery of novel ebolavirus ‘Bombali virus’ and Marburg virus from bat samples in Sierra Leone using different molecular biology techniques including RT-PCR, qPCR and sequencing techniques. At OHI laboratory, he also developed ELISA assays for specific detection of ebolavirus antibodies in humans and wild animals such as bats, rodents and primates.
